Would Raise $2.7 Billion for Health Care Reform
Monday, December 21st, 2009
The latest from Washington is that patrons of tanning salons will be hit with a 10% tanning tax – raising an estimated $2.7 billion over 10 years to pay for Health care reform. While this replaces the proposed 5% “BoTax” on plastic surgery providers, we know this won’t be the last we’ll hear from the IRS.
President Obama is optimistic about the passage of the Health Care Bill, which is set to provide some 30 million Americans currently without Health insurance affordable coverage, and the administration is looking at creative ways to acquire funding

W-2 will Be Affected by New Health Care Law
Friday, July 16th, 2010
I got an interesting email recently regarding the new Health care law (see below for full email message) . The email FALSELY claims that the new legislation would require workers to pay income tax on the value of employer-provided Health insurance. This is simply not the case.
It’s true that the value of employer-paid Health insurance will be added to employees’ W-2 forms for information purposes, however, contrary to this widely circulating chain e-mail, it definitely will be considered taxable income.
There’s a great article on Snopes.com that talks

to shut down scams and schemes that undermine the health of our voluntary tax system. A $345-billion annual tax gap is simply not acceptable,” said Baucus. He also underscored the importance of narrowing the tax gap to pay for health care reform.
CCH Comment: Baucus has emphasized the role that the IRS Chief Counsel must play in dealing with the tax gap before. At the nomination hearing of former IRS Chief Counsel Donald Korb on March 8, 2004, Baucus pointedly asked Korb what he would do to lower the tax gap and restore faith in the tax system. Korb served as IRS Chief Counsel from April 14, 2004, until December 19, 2008.

derived from a prime bank scheme.
Mary J. Clagg, 60, of Fresno, was indicted on federal income tax charges stemming from the scheme. She has pleaded not guilty.
According to the government, from approximately January 1999 to December 2002, CLAGG received commissions from Resource Development International (RDI), a scheme that raised nearly $98 million. RDI was in fact a fraudulent investment scheme that offered and sold unregistered prime bank securities, mainly targeting people seeking to invest retirement funds. Instead, investors’ funds were misappropriated and dispensed for personal and unauthorized business uses. Tens of millions of dollars

Not Alone: IRS Goes After 60 Health Care Providers
Thursday, December 17th, 2009
While President Obama is optimistic about the passage of the Health Care Bill which is set to provide some 30 million Americans currently without Health insurance affordable coverage without raising the federal deficit, the IRS is under scrutiny for its tax collection efforts from 60 Health care providers who owe large sums of unpaid back taxes .
The latest news involves the Senate Finance Committee holding the IRS accountable for deficient tax collection from Health care providers. This shows just how no one is safe from IRS’ grasp. The current tax
